Second year BHMS students of Sri Veerabhadreshwar Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Humnabad, visited Taluka Sub Jail Humnabad on 6th February 2024 as a part of their academic curriculum. The visit was organized by the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT). The visit aimed to provide students with practical insights into forensic medicine and toxicology by exposing them to the environment of a correctional facility. Dr. Samina B, the Head of the Department of FMT, provided an introduction about the jail, setting the stage for the visit.
During the visit, Mr. Bhimashakar, the Head Constable of the police, and Mr. Akshay Kumar, a constable, played a crucial role in guiding the students through the jail premises. They likely provided information about the functioning of the jail, the conditions of the prisoners, and possibly insights into the crimes they committed.
For the Second Year BHMS students, this visit would have offered a practical understanding of various aspects related to forensic medicine and toxicology. It likely helped them connect theoretical knowledge with real-life scenarios, enhancing their learning experience. Understanding the environment and circumstances of individuals involved in criminal activities can provide valuable insights for future healthcare practitioners.
Overall, such visits contribute significantly to the holistic education of students, offering them a broader perspective on the societal aspects related to their field of study. We thank our Principal Dr. Indrajeet P. Shah, for extensive guidance for conducting the activity and to Hob’ble Dr. Chandrashekar B. Patil, our Chairman, for providing the opportunity for this enriching experience.
